Ben Jurin Architecture

Ben Jurin Architecture

Last month, local architect Ben Jurin of Ben Jurin Architecture emailed me regarding a commission to produce a series of architectural photographs of a property he was overseeing the redevelopment of in Blackpool.

I offered a competitive quote to shoot a minimum of twenty high resolution photographs for use on his forthcoming website and marketing material. Although I’ve never produced this kind of property photography before, Ben had faith and commissioned me nonetheless. We arranged an evening when we could both meet, talk about the property and shoot the photographs.

Living By The Seaside

St Annes Seaside Photowalk

I feel an affinity for the seaside and all things coastal. It makes me happy to live only a minutes walk away from the powerful and vast expanse of the sea.

Last year there was a wonderfully inspiring documentary presented by the poet and author Owen Sheers called Art and the Sea on BBC Four. Unfortunately it’s no longer on the BBC iPlayer, but you can see a short clip from it featuring the photographer Martin Parr here → Martin Parr’s Seaside

“As an island nation the sea has exerted a powerful influence on some of Britain’s best known artists. It has led to some of the finest British paintings from the likes of Constable and Turner and continues to be fertile territory for prominent artists today.” (Quote from the BBC website)

Welcome To The Golden Mile

Welcome To The Golden Mile By Yannick Dixon Photographic Works

Each month I’m offering limited edition prints of photographs recently added to my portfolio. I often receive emails from art buyers regarding print sales and I thought that a print of the month is a good way for collectors to get their hands on my work at discounted prices.

Each print measures 17” x 11” and printed by myself on Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper using a Canon Pixma 9000 Mark II. There will only be 25 prints produced of each monthly photograph and it will be signed, sealed and delivered to you.

I love street photography, but what do you call photographs taken on the promenade? Promenade photography? It doesn’t quite seem to have the same ring to it does it?! Well this month’s ‘print of the month’ is an example of the kind of candid photography I love shooting.

St Annes Swan

St Annes Swan By Yannick Dixon

When I woke up this morning I opened the curtains to find a thick blanket of fog covering this seaside town. Fog transforms the aesthetic quality of the landscape and I knew I had to get outside straight away to shoot some images.

The last series I shot in Lytham St. Annes was when it snowed back in December (The Big Freeze) so it was about time I went to see what else I could find.

This photograph of a swan on a nearby lake is one of my favourite images from this morning and made the whole photo-walk a success. I shot a little over a hundred images all along the promenade and beach, but I knew from the moment I pressed the shutter that this photograph was the one I’d feature first on this blog.
