In Pictures: As The World Tipped

As part of it’s cultural arts programme, LeftCoast in partnership with Without Walls Associate Touring Network hosted the breath-taking As The World Tipped by Wired Aerial Theatre at Blackpool Cricket Club.

LeftCoast is a one of twenty-one Creative People and Places programmes supported by Arts Council England that is delivering a pioneering programme of arts and cultural activity across Blackpool and Wyre which aims to enrich the lives of those who live, work and visit here.

A truly powerful piece of world-class aerial theatre it really is great that LeftCoast brought this to Blackpool and offered it as a free event for all of Blackpool to enjoy.

I was commissioned by LeftCoast as their photographer for the Saturday performance of As The World Tipped and was hired to create an image gallery to show both audiences arriving at the Cricket Club on the night, the pre-show entertainment and As The World Tipped itself.

In Pictures: As The World Tipped

The performance begins at the Secretariat of the Copenhagen Climate Change conference where harassed staff fail to notice as the world around them, literally and metaphorically, slides toward ecological disaster.

Using stunning film footage from Yann Arthus-Bertrand and Gideon Mendel as a backdrop to extraordinary acrobatic aerial performances this environmentally poignant production certainly lives up to it’s billing of “a real life disaster story in the sky”.

Suspended above the audience in the night sky, the performers struggle to control their increasingly precarious world as they do battle with the effects of drastic environmental catastrophe.

This was my first time working as a photographer for LeftCoast and it was really nice to meet the team. They’re doing a great job bringing arts and cultural events to Blackpool and I’m hopeful to work again with them in the future.
