The Big Freeze

The Big Freeze #1 By Yannick Dixon Photographic Works

December 2010 is the month that residents of the United Kingdom will remember as The Big Freeze. Freezing cold temperatures and heavy snowfall has resulted in travel chaos across the country and transformed the look of our town’s and cities.

I’ve lived by the seaside for the past seven years and I’ve never seen this amount of snow fall on the Fylde coast. Early on Saturday morning I walked around Ashton Gardens and the sand dunes in Lytham St. Annes to photograph the freshly fallen blanket of snow and make the most of the light.

I spent around three hours carefully walking in the snow (it pays to be extra vigilant when you have a Canon 5D Mark II around your neck at the best of times) and enjoyed photographing nature at it’s finest.
