Introduction to St Annes Kite Festival

St Annes Kite Festival is a free event held in July where the skies above St Annes seafront become filled with bright colours as spectacular display kites are flown high above in celebration.

Visitors of all ages packed the beach to enjoy flying kites of all shapes, sizes and colours during this annual two-day event which was blessed with beautiful sunny weather and, thankfully, enough wind to fly a kite.

Over two days I photographed the kite festival from all manner of perspectives, from St Annes Pier to the beach, and recorded ambient sound which I’ve blended together to present alongside the images to help you get a better sense of what it was like to be there.
