BLESMA Residents

Monochrome portrait of BLESMA resident Christina Ramsden

BLESMA is a national charity for limbless serving and ex service men and women and their dependants and widows. I often pass-by on my way to work and I’ve always thought it’d be great to shoot a photography project there to show my support. It’s important to be reminded of these people in our society and to celebrate who they are and what they represent.

Arts Development UK

Three years ago I was commissioned as the Photographer in Residence for the NALGAO (National Association of Local Government Arts Officers) annual conference which was held at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

The underpinning theme of the conference was the contribution that the arts and creative industries make in building sustainable communities and supporting regeneration.

The conference was a huge success and I had a fantastic time photographing keynote speakers, workshops and cultural study tours. Earlier this year, NALGAO rebranded itself as Arts Development UK and decided to come back to Blackpool for the first time since 2008. I’m pleased to say that I was asked back once again to undertake the role of Photographer in Residence.

Welcome To The Golden Mile

Welcome To The Golden Mile By Yannick Dixon Photographic Works

Each month I’m offering limited edition prints of photographs recently added to my portfolio. I often receive emails from art buyers regarding print sales and I thought that a print of the month is a good way for collectors to get their hands on my work at discounted prices.

Each print measures 17” x 11” and printed by myself on Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl paper using a Canon Pixma 9000 Mark II. There will only be 25 prints produced of each monthly photograph and it will be signed, sealed and delivered to you.

I love street photography, but what do you call photographs taken on the promenade? Promenade photography? It doesn’t quite seem to have the same ring to it does it?! Well this month’s ‘print of the month’ is an example of the kind of candid photography I love shooting.

British Wildlife Photography Awards 2010

British Wildlife Photography Awards

Earlier this week I received an email notifying me that I’ve been shortlisted in the British Wildlife Photography Awards 2010.

This “international photography competition, the BWPA was established to celebrate and recognise the talents of photographers of all nationalities practicing in the UK, while at the same time highlight the great wealth and diversity of British natural history.

At a time when we’re increasingly conscious of the importance of wildlife, habitat and conservation, the Awards encourage photographers, whether professional or enthusiast, to explore Britain’s natural and urban environments, and discover its bounty of wildlife, from birds to mammals, insects to marine life”.
