Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival 2010

Public holidays were surely introduced so that the majority of the population could take a well deserved break from the daily grind of work and go out to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

I thought that I’d spend this year’s August Bank Holiday in London photographing the main parade of Europe’s largest street festival: Notting Hill Carnival.

Madrid Metro Station

Madrid Metro Stations

In the early hours of Saturday morning I arrived back in the UK after six wonderful days exploring and photographing the Spanish capital of Madrid.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a selection of documentary photographs that I took while encountering life on the city streets and wandering in Madrid’s largest urban park Casa de Campo.

While I continue to make my way through processing and editing the 900 photographs I shot during the trip, I thought I’d start things off by posting this portrait taken in a Madrid Metro Station.

The metro is one of the quickest modes of transport in Madrid, yet there are plenty of passing moments which take place at station platforms that reflect a more tranquil side to the city’s busy cosmopolitan image.

Blackpool Revellers

Blackpool Revellers By Professional Photographer Yannick Dixon

This photograph entitled Blackpool Revellers is semi-inspired by the article Personal Projects Can Make A Difference written by Grant Scott for Professional Photographer magazine as it inspired me to take a closer look at the current direction of my photographic practice and, more importantly, to continue shooting new images for my personal projects. Like many photographers, personal work is the driving force behind my creative inclinations and an important aspect of any artistic practice.

Bloomfield Talks Community Arts Project

Bloomfield Talks Photography By Yannick Dixon

In August 2008 I was asked to join the community based arts project Bloomfield Talks by internationally renowned artist Simon Grennan. Bloomfield Talks is a year-long oral history project commissioned by Blackpool Council and ran between July 2008 and May 2009. The project focuses upon the experiences of people who have connections with the Bloomfield, Foxhall, Revoe and near South Shore area of Blackpool.
